AMC Renews 'Comic Book Men' & 'Talking Dead' For Season 2

Comic Book Men Talking Dead Renewal TV

AMC has announced that it has renewed two of its popular unscripted series, Comic Book Men and Talking Dead - both with an increased episode count. Comic Book Men will be bumped up from six, hour-long episodes in its first season to sixteen half-hour episodes, with Talking Dead also receiving sixteen episodes as well, upping it from its previous season's thirteen.

Pulling in an average of 1.5 million viewers for its freshman season, Comic Book Men is pretty much the Antiques Roadshow for the geek world. Fans get an all-out nerd bonanza with director Kevin Smith, as collectors from all over the (world?) bring rare items to Smith's famed Red Bank, New Jersey comic shop ' a.k.a. Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash.

'Pinch my fat a', 'cause I must be dreaming!' said an over-excited Smith, who then added:

'A thousand thank you's wouldn't cover the gratitude I'm feeling right now. And as you might imagine, everyone at SModcast Pictures is in love with everyone at AMC today! Rest assured, Walt, Bry, Mike, Ming and I are suited up and ready to hit the ice for our second season with Team AMC.'

Following each episode of Comic Book Men (which is also executive produced by Smith) a companion podcast, titled The Secret Stash, is also released by SModcast network and features further discussion with the show's cast on Comic Book Men events.

Comic Book Men Talking Dead Renewal TV 2

Coming off The Walking Dead's epic and record-breaking Season 2 finale, the series' recap talk show, Talking Dead, pulled in 4.3 million viewers for the last episode of its first season. Hosted by stand-up comedian Chris Hardwick, Talking Dead features in-depth yet comical discussions with cast and crew about what just happened on The Walking Dead  ' as well as viewer questions submitted via Twitter, email and phone.

Hardwick had this to say about the show's renewal:

'[Talking Dead] has been an amazing experience and I cannot pile enough hugs and thanks onto AMC for renewing it. I can't wait for Season 3 of Walking Dead, so that we can finally talk about Rick meeting [SPOILER] and [SPOILER]-ing him with a heavy-duty [SPOILER] at the [SPOILER]. And let's not forget all the rest of the [SPOILER]s getting in on the action! [EXPLETIVE] me! It's going to be great.'

With details of The Walking Dead's highly-anticipated upcoming third season slowly trickling in, Hardwick's child-like excitement is more than justified and is shared by many of the show's fans. Without giving too much away, AMC's hit zombie thriller will be going to a darker place (if that's possible) with the casting of not one, but two season 3 fan-fave characters from the original comic - in addition to the awaited return of  a season one character.

Look for both Comic Book Men and Talking Dead to return this fall on AMC.
