Luke Evans Officially in Talks for 'Fast and the Furious 6' Villain Role

luke evans fast furious 6 villain role

Following rumors that Luke Evans had been offered the villain role in The Fast and the Furious 6 (a.k.a. Fast Six) after Jason Statham passed on the opportunity, we now have confirmation that the former UK actor is currently in negotiations to join Gina Carano (and possibly David Tennant ' ?) as a new addition to the lucrative street racing franchise.

Series staples like Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will be returning for the sixth F&F flick, along with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Michelle Rodriguez, among others.

Variety has the scoop on Evans, who the site says is up to play the head of a crew attempting to pull off the same heist job (in Europe) as the intrepid Fast and the Furious gang. Other than that vague logline, little has been revealed about what exactly director Justin Lin and screenwriter Chris Morgan are planning for the film ' which is expected to be even more of a caper flick than its immediate predecessor, Fast Five.

Evans has emerged as the standout in several of what were otherwise considered mediocre titles released over the past year, including The Three Musketeers, Immortals and The Raven. He's now on his way to bigger and better things ' not only with his role in the sixth Fast and the Furious movie, but also his turn as Bard the Bowman in Peter Jackson's two Hobbit movies. Needless to say, Evan's starmeter should continue to rise in the foreseeable future.

Even with new additions like Carano (Haywire) and Evans, Fast and the Furious 6 isn't likely to win over either those who weren't already a fan of this franchise ' or didn't enjoy any of the previous installments ' especially the ones released after Lin started holding the directorial reins. Considering Fast Five managed to gross a series-high $626 million worlwide in theaters, there are still plenty of people who get a kick out of watching the sort of ridiculous stunts and shut-your-brain-off thrills these movies are known for.

The Fast and the Furious 6/Fast Six powerslides into theaters around the U.S. on May 24th, 2013.
