'Prometheus' Roundup: Charlize Theron Featurette, Idris Elba Interview & More

Today's batch of Prometheus goodies covers all the bases, as far as promotional material is concerned. That includes: a new featurette focusing on Weyland Industries representative Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron), an interview where Idris Elba discusses such topics as his character, Captain Janek, and working with a seasoned filmmaker like Scott ' and a new screenshot, depicting David (Michael Fassbender) exploring the mysterious 'Space Map' featured in previous images released from the Alien spinoff/prequel.

Fox's extended trailer for Prometheus provided much food for thought about the film, including questions about exactly what Theron's character's priorities are. Obviously, the latest featurette doesn't spill the beans (entirely), but Vickers is certainly an interesting specimen. If any one member of the titular spacecraft's crew seems to have a hidden agenda ' among other potential secrets (could she actually be an android?) ' it's her.

On the less-speculative side of things: this new behind-the-scenes footage from Prometheus provides a fun look at incomplete versions of the more noteworthy practical sets constructed for the film (including, the 'Ampule Room'). In a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies, Elba echoed Theron's comments about how helpful the real-life props were to his experience on the production ' and that 'It was like being on another planet.'

Elba also heaped much praise on Ridley Scott, who he previously collaborated with on American Gangster:

'Working with Ridley is like taking a master class every day. He sits the actors down and talks to us before we even start shooting' Even on 'American Gangster,' I had a small role, but he took the time to sit with me and get to know me.'

The fav-fave, Golden Globe-winning alum of HBO's The Wire and BBC's Luther also offered assurances that there is more to Prometheus than what's been revealed so far ' to quote Elba directly, 'There's so much more to it than [what is revealed in] the trailer.' Given the relatively vague picture of the film painted by its promos (humans go to an alien planet, chaos ensues), that's not so hard to believe.

Moving on ' here is what the Yahoo! article has to offer about Elba's character in Prometheus:

'Ridley instructed me to read 'Moby Dick,'' [Elba] says, adding that it was very helpful to his character depiction. (Janek is perhaps the most practical of the group, an alpha male most concerned with the logistics of the mission, and not necessarily its lofty goals.)

Other members of the Prometheus crew are clearly more focused on the mission's 'lofty goals,' as the latest still frame from the film ' where confirmed android David marvels at a holographic mapping of the universe ' reminds us:

There's not much more to be said about Prometheus that hasn't already been discussed many times over in the past -with regards to 3D effects and visuals, the film is essentially assured to deliver the goods.

It pretty much boils down to this: so long as the screenplay originally penned by Jon Spaihts (The Darkest Hour), with a subsequent rewrite by Damon Lindelof (Lost) ' which was actively overseen by Scott ' manages to deliver on the promise of mind-blowing ideas and bone-chilling scares that the film's cast and crew have talked about so frequently in the past' well, then Prometheus could indeed manage to meet (or even exceed) the sky-high expectations so many fans have for it.

All shall be revealed when Prometheus opens in theaters (2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D) around the U.S. on June 8th, 2012.
