'Fast and the Furious 6' Casting Rumors Include Luke Evans & Rihanna

Fast Six with Luke Evans

When we last saw Dominic Torretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker) they were tearing up the streets of Brazil in twin Dodge Chargers. Did I mention that attached to the rear of the vehicles was a safe loaded with over a 100 million dollars? With production for Fast and the Furious 6 (Fast Six?) underway one can only wonder what director Justin Lin has in mind to follow up the explosive action scenes he blessed us with in Fast Five.

The entire cast of Fast Five is due back for the sixth installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise, including Michelle Rodriguez who is set to return as Vin Diesel's on-screen girlfriend Letty, despite her seemingly untimely demise in fourth film. Also joining the growing ensemble might be two more stars.

Twitch is reporting that Luke Evans may step in as the villain in Fast and the Furious 6. It had been long rumored that Jason Statham might take the villain role but it appears now that he is no longer available. While the Wales, UK born Evans may not be as well known as Statham, he's certainly on the cusp of international super-stardom with recent key roles including Aramis  (The Three Musketeers), Zeus (Immortals) and a stint in last weekend's The Raven under his belt. Evans also has three movies (No One Lives, Ashes and the highly anticipated The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) scheduled for release before the ball drops on December 31st.

Boosting the female side of the cast is not only the return of Rodriguez and the potential addition of Haywire star Gina Carino, but pop star Rihanna, at least according to The Daily Mail. Like Carino, Rihanna also only has one film under her belt in Battleship which opens later this month. Rihanna's role however may be relatively minor as the report has her shooting specific scenes on a track south of London, perhaps as an underground race organizer? Her rep told MTV that she wasn't aware of any such role so we await confirmation on all of the casting reports.

Though not confirmed, word on the street is that the Fast and the Furious 6 storyline may once again be set on international soil. If this is true, it makes all the financial sense in the world to have a UK actor and a Barbadian singer step in to add even more flavor to the diverse cast.

Assuming Luke Evans accepts the role as the villain in Fast Six, he will be following up an exceptional performance by Joaquim de Almeida (Fast Five). As Evans' films continue to hit the big screen both fast and furious (pun intended), he may find himself in a breakout role in one of next year's biggest films. While Statham would have been a fun addition to the Fast and the Furious 6 cast, Evans may be the next best thing' that is of course, unless Michael Fassbender becomes available.

Fast and the Furious 6 is currently in production and is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 24th, 2013.
