Capcom Making 'Street Fighter' Live-Action Series, 'Assassin's Fist'

Street Fighter Assassin's Fist

Capcom USA, Inc. has teamed up with Assassin's Fist Limited ' creators of the fan-made YouTube sensation Street Fighter: Legacy - to produce a live-action series called Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist. Announced earlier today by series creator Joey Ansah and actor Christian Howard during Comic-Con 2012; Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist is in development for a 2013 release and will be a full-length version of Ansah previous 2010 short film.

Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist will be a multi-layered series set in rural Japan, and will revolve around the formative years of Ryu and Ken, as they study the centuries-old fighting style known as 'Ansatsuken' (Assassin's Fist). Taught to them by their Master, Gouken, Ken and Ryu are unknowingly the last practitioners the Ansatsuken fighting style ' that itself has a tragic and dark legacy linked to Master Gouken's mysterious past.

The series has been in the works for over two years now, following the release of Ansah's Street Fighter: Legacy back in May 2010. While only being a short three minutes in length ' Legacy became a huge Internet success among fans of the video game franchise. Joey Ansah, who is probably best known for his role as Desh in The Bourne Ultimatum, directed Legacy (with Capcom's blessing) and starred as Akuma ' with relative unknown Christian Howard as Ken Masters. Ansah had this to say about the upcoming Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist:

'[Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist ] will be what fans have been waiting for. Legacy was a taster; a glimpse of what a live-action Street Fighter should be. This takes the story right back to the start ' the origins and motivations of Ryu, Ken, Gouken and Akuma. This will become the definitive back-story from which further epic adventures will follow.'

Street Fighter Assassin's Fist 2

Following the less-than-loved Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li live-action film ' fans of the Street Fighter series might welcome the idea of a new TV series that will offer more time to tell a continuous story. While no word on casting or where the series will be aired, if executed with the same type dedication as Legacy, Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist could be a really awesome show.
