The CW Fall 2012 Premiere Dates; 'Supernatural' Moving to Wednesdays

The CW has moved the premiere of its fall season to October, taking up most of the month to stagger the returning favorites with the debuts of the network's newest offerings. Most notable is the shift of the long-running, fan-favorite series, Supernatural, away from its Friday night timeslot to Wednesday, following the buzzed about superhero drama, Arrow.

Supernatural season 8 premieres on October 3rd at 9:00pm, and will see Sam and Dean Winchester gassing up the Impala for an eighth season of monster hunting that many have speculated could be the series' last. However, recent comments made by CW President Mike Pedowitz, at the network upfronts in May, suggest eight seasons with the Winchesters may not be enough to satisfy The CW.

Perhaps if the series sees a significant boost from Arrow and the move to Wednesdays, it'll be enough to convince the Winchesters to dig deep and stick around for a ninth season.

The following week will mark the series premiere of Arrow, the newest adaptation of DC Comics' Green Arrow character. After a compelling sneak peek and revealing extended trailer, not much else needs to be said about the show ' other than it's shaping up to be the most talked about new program The CW is offering this season. Considering Arrow has a full panel and screening at Comic-Con 2012, it seems the network is anticipating a hit.

Technically, Hart of Dixie, one of the few new series to carry over from last season, will officially kick off The CW's fall on October 2nd, with 90210 and the final season of Gossip Girl premiering the following Monday.  On October 11th, The Vampire Diaries will now act as the lead in to Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) in Beauty and the Beast, after Vampire Diaries' sister show, The Secret Circle, failed to earn a second season.

Later in the month, fans of Smallville's Green Arrow, Justin Hartley, can catch up with the actor in the new Grey's Anatomy-esque medical series Emily Owens, M.D., where Hartley will be trading in his leather hoodie and arrows for hospital scrubs and a stethoscope. Considering Hartley embodied the role of Oliver Queen for five seasons, earning him throngs of supporters to land the Arrow role, it will be interesting to see if those same fans follow him over to this completely different series.
