'Skyfall' Olympics Trailer: First Glimpse of Javier Bardem as Silva

After a fairly long hiatus ' it's been four years since Quantum of Solace ' James Bond will return in Sam Mendes' Skyfall this November. And though we've seen the trailer and heard tell of the Comic-Con footage (courtesy of our very own Kofi Outlaw), we've yet to see more than a shadowy glimpse of the villain, played by Javier Bardem.

Last night, a teaser trailer (above) aired during the Olympics opening ceremony that featured, among other things, the first shadow-less glimpse of Javier Bardem's blond, creepy villain, simply known as 'Silva.'

The teaser is fairly brief at 33 seconds, but it has everything you could possibly want from a Bond movie trailer: action, romance, the Aston Martin, Bond's family home burning to the ground, a person falling to his death, and Bond himself dryly uttering the words: '007 reporting for duty.'

The second to last shot in the teaser ' of Bond leaping onto a train as the caboose gets torn loose, standing upright, then nonchalantly straightening his right cufflink ' is so quintessentially Bond that it's hard not to get extremely excited about the film. In fact, it's incredibly reminiscent of the scene in Goldeneye where Pierce Brosnan smashes into a car with his tank, stops to assess the damage, calmly adjusts his tie, then drives off.

Skyfall Javier Bardem Silva

Alas, there is but a glimpse of Bardem's 'Silva' character, but it's enough to assume that his blond hair (which appeared in some set photos a while back) is probably not a wig within the continuity of the film, as some hypothesized. Might 'Silva' be a throwback to creepy, blond villains of yore as portrayed by Robert Shaw in From Russia with Love, Ronald Rich in You Only Live Twice, Andreas Wisniewski in The Living Daylights, and Gotz Otto in Tomorrow Never Dies? One can only hope.

James Bond (Daniel Craig) also appeared in the opening ceremony of the Olympics (sort of), escorting the Queen herself to the event. Check it out below:

It's interesting that Danny Boyle ' who directed the opening ceremony and the clip above ' was actually rumored at one point to be up for directing James Bond 23 before Sam Mendes became officially attached. Looks like he got his chance to direct James Bond after all.

Skyfall ' starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, Naomie Harris as Eve, Judi Dench as M, Javier Bardem as Silva, Ralph Fiennes as Gareth Mallory, Albert Finney as Kincade, and Ben Whishaw as Q ' hits theaters November 9th, 2012.
